Christopher Nolan Returns to Batman Franchise

Posted by Jordan On September - 30 - 2010

There have been a lot of rumors swirling around the next installment in the Batman franchise. Both Johnny Depp and Eddie Murphy have been rumored to play the Riddler in the next movie, and even more oddly, Cher was rumored to be a candidate for Catwoman, and a Shia LeBeouf as Robin rumor was also floating around. Basically everybody with an internet connection and a friend of a cousin of a friend in the industry was posting ridiculous crap about the next Batman movie on message boards. We now have one fact amidst all these rumors, Christopher Nolan will be directing Batman 3.

Christopher Nolan did a great job directing Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and proved alongside Iron Man that comic book movies could be serious and seriously fun. When asked by Empire if he would be directing Batman 3, Nolan replied: “If I haven’t announced it, I think that people probably all know at this point that I’m doing it.” It would just feel wrong at this point to have anybody other than Nolan directing it. A change of this magnitude would rival replacing Christian Bale as Batman. Fans have become as attached to Christopher Nolan’s directing as they have to Batman’s gravelly voice. Perhaps most importantly, Nolan said he is hard at work for the script with his brother, Jonathan Nolan. Hopefully we will be getting casting announcements and finding out which Batman villains will be in the next movie. I’m hoping for Bane.

Video Game Movies Don’t Always Suck

Posted by Jordan On September - 27 - 2010

Movies based off of video games have long been considered to be the dreck of Hollywood. Entertaining video games just never seem to translate well to the big screen. Plots get simplified, characters get changed, and fans complain. One of the problems is part of the entertainment factor of video games is the unique way that people are immersed in them. People are actually controlling players and making decisions in video games. They lose that aspect when video games are turned into movies. Another problem is many people don’t seem to take video game movies seriously, and the fact that they are considered to be crap becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Still, some people see the potential in video game movies, and ave made films that are worthy to be watched and enjoyed repeatedly.

Mortal Kombat

The plot of Mortal Kombat is fairly straightforward. There is a tournament known as Mortal Kombat that has fighters from different realms beat each other up. If one realm wins the tournament ten times in a row, they get to invade the other realm. Earth has lost nine times in a row, so Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade must win the tournament to save earth! As you have probably guessed, the fight scenes are awesome. Best of all is Sub-Zero turning people to ice and kicking them apart. Mortal Kombat is truly a classic.

Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie

The live action Street Fighter movie was terrible. It was atrocious. It was practically a crime against humanity. If you try and ask Jean-Claude Van Damme about this movie, he will kick your face through your ass. The animated version of Street Fighter turned out so much better. E. Honda’s thousand hand slap looked cool, hadoukens looked natural rather than like a poorly done special effect, and the voice overs were more believable than any of the actors in the live action movie. The animated Street Fighter movie just felt right.

Resident Evil

The Resident Evil video games are the best zombie based video games ever. They have also translated into some pretty damn good zombie movies. Milla Jovovich is a great leading lady for the series. She is fairly attractive, being a former super model, and she is also believable when she kicks ass. The zombies are pretty intense, and having the S.T.A.R.S. team, Resident Evil’s version of SWAT, take on the zombies made for some great action scenes. The greatness of the first Resident Evil movie has spawned three sequels, enough said.

Pokemon: The First Movie

Pokemon Blue, Red, and Green were all great games. Many a childhood was spent trying to catch them all. Where Pokemon truly excelled was in expansion. There were Pokemon toys, cards, and then the movies started. The first Pokemon movie was amazing, at least for a younger audience. Ash and Pikachu go on an adventure and then stuff gets real. Super powerful Pokemon Mew gets cloned and the iconic character MewTwo is born! MewTwo is a dick and Ash must stop him. That movie brings back some great memories.

Silent Hill

Silent Hill follows a mother trying to find her lost daughter in the town of Silent Hill. This town is constantly covered in fog and apparently houses monstrous creatures. What made the movie and the video game so entertaining was that they were both great at creating suspense and tense moments. You want to know what happens next. Silent Hill isn’t a movie that can be enjoyed over and over, but the first time watching is a great experience.

New Series Debuts

Posted by Jordan On September - 24 - 2010

Now that we are moving out of the summer months, we are being greeted with a barrage of new shows. As usual, some of these shows are pretty good, some are decent, and some were atrocious. This is pretty much par for the course when it comes to new shows. These pilot episodes are very important to the overall success of the shows. If they start off with interesting episodes, then we are more likely to come back and watch that show. A show that starts off with a bad first episode could be the death of a show, as we don’t want to come back and watch crap again. Here is a look at 5 new shows the recently premiered.

Outsourced

Outsourced is another show in the vein of The Office and Parks and Recreation. It is essentially a comedy about an American who has been put in charge of a call station in India. The comedy is based off of cultural misunderstandings and one-liners, and for the most part it is actually pretty entertaining. The jokes were actually funny, the cast was likeable, and the show can go in some interesting directions. Outsourced wasn’t perfect, but it was good enough to bring me back for more.

The Defenders

Jerry O’Connell and Jim Belushi make their returns to television in the legal drama The Defenders. They are surprisingly believable as Las Vegas lawyers who actually care about their clients. The Defenders did a great job of grabbing my attention with the case, a man accused of murder who was just trying to defend his brother from being beaten by four guys. The unorthodox way that Jim Belushi and Jerry O’Connell handled the case was interesting, and, as a whole, The Defenders shows a lot of promise for the future.

$#*! My Dad Says

$#*! My Dad Says is one of the worst shows I have seen in a long time. First off, it should be Shit My Dad Says, like the Twitter account the show is based off of. The harsh language is part of the entertainment, losing that in the show is not good. William Shatner is not very good as a gruff old man, and the cast just kind of seems to be there, periodically whipping out half-assed one-liners. This show was not good, and doesn’t appear to have much potential to get better.

Mike & Molly

Do you like fat jokes? Do you love fat jokes? Do you go absolutely bat shit insane with joy over fat jokes? If you answered yes to that last question, you will love Mike & Molly, as it really is all fat jokes. And about fat people being in love, as fat people are only fit for other fat people, while making self deprecating remarks. The first fat jokes make you giggle, but after 5 minutes it gets old. Mike & Molly is definitely not a keeper.

Running Wilde

Will Arnett plays dumb guys very well, and Running Wilde plays off of that strength. Arnett plays a rich and stupid man who is selfish, but overall a good guy. He is just out of touch with the world. He is also in love with Kerri Russell, who is all about humanitarian works, so he has his goofy antics to try and impress her. Arnett is definitely the heart of the show, but his household servants were surprisingly entertaining on their own as well. I hate the name of the show, Running Wilde just sounds stupid, but I will be watching this one.

Top 5 Panda Cheese Commercials

Posted by wezzo On September - 22 - 2010

The collection of Panda Cheese commercials are a treat. The premise of each ad is the same, if people say no to using or buying Panda Cheese they’re dealt with silent rage from a cuddly violent Panda. Dark and absolutely hilarious, lets hope these aren’t the last we’ll see.

Panda Cheese is a popular product out of Egypt and the Middle East if you may have missed it, probably the greatest thing to come out of the Middle East since Bar Refaeli, who’s also rather cute and cuddly.

Panda Cheese – Office

Panda Cheese – Hospital

Panda Cheese – Kitchen

Panda Cheese – Supermarket 1

Panda Cheese – Supermarket 2

If it’s easier you can watch all 5 videos in one video over at our YouTube page.

Will Ryan Reynolds Disappoint Comic Nerds Everywhere?

Posted by Jordan On September - 22 - 2010

Deadpool has become a very popular character amongst comic fans. When it was announced that Ryan Reynolds would be playing him in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie, fanboys everywhere lauded the genius casting decision. Reynolds has the six-pack abs and quick wit to perfectly match the merc with the mouth. Then everybody became depressed when the Wolverine version of Deadpool was lamer than your dad’s jokes. Marvel heard the outcry of the fans and announced that a Deadpool movie would be put into the works, hopefully redeeming the character from the previous monstrosity. Ryan Reynolds has been leading the charge for a Deadpool movie, and it has been widely accepted that he would return to lead Deadpool to redemption. Now it seems that he is setting everyone up for heartbreak.

Ryan Reynolds recently announced that he will have to choose between the leading role in Deadpool or the leading role in R.I.P.D. On the plus side for comic fans, whichever he chooses he will still be doing a comic book movie. R.I.P.D. is about undead police officers working together to find a murderer, so that still sounds pretty awesome if he decides to go that way. The biggest problem here is it seems that Ryan Reynolds has been the driving force behind moving a Deadpool movie forward, who knows what will happen if he backs off the project. Even if it does get made without him, many people will probably wonder what could have been if Reynolds chose Deadpool. He hasn’t made any official announcements yet, but I know a lot of Deadpool fans are crossing their fingers that he chooses regenerating, psychopathic mercenary over zombie cop with a taste for brains and vengeance.

Anything featuring Robert Downey Jr. or Zach Galifianakis I’ll watch. Zach Galifianakis has been on a roll ever since the Hangover, not necessary on screen but with for smaller projects, Between Two Ferns anyone? Robert Downey Jr. on the other hand is one solid comedic actor, put him any type of scenario and he’ll act the fuck out of it. Throw some Todd Phillips (Old School & Hangover) directorial in the mix for good measure and you are guaranteed of a tasty-tasty treat.

Due Date’s plot sounds a bit like a cross between Tommy Boy, Hangover & Planes Trains and Automobiles which, mind you is a good thing. Can’t wait.

Two men: a highly strung expectant father Peter Highman (Downey) and aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis) take a road trip cross country so the father can arrive in time to see his child’s birth.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s new project Book of Mormon

Posted by wezzo On September - 16 - 2010

Quick News:

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have written a script, music and lyrics for a Broadway musical which opens in March 2011. The musical called “Book of Mormon” will be directed by Tony nominee Casey Nicholaw (director for The Drowsy Chaperone) and collaborated with Broadway vet Robert Lopez (composer and lyricist for Avenue Q). So it’s got some hard hitting right off the bat, but I doubt we ever expected less from the South Park creators.

Synopsis:

The new musical tells the story of two young Mormon missionaries who are sent off to spread the word in a dangerous part of Uganda. Their tale is told in parallel with the story of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I can only assume this will be hilarious. A wet-dream for any comedy nerd. [via]

Fantastic Hero and Villain Optical Illusion Posters

Posted by wezzo On September - 16 - 2010

Hot off the buzz created around the awesome Star Wars Propaganda Posters comes another set of fan inspired movie posters titled Hero vs. Villian created by UK graphic designer Simon C. Page. The inspiration, as has been noted, most probably came from the cover of Batman: Two Faces, a DC Comic special published in ’98. It’s clear Simon is a massive Comic/Star Wars geek. Next time I’m in the UK I’ll definitely look him up, buy him a beer and give him a noogie. Huge amount of respect, but I can’t be seen letting my guard down – you know how it is.

If you’re interested, prints are available for purchase through inprnt.com, prices range between $25 to $80.

The Super Delicious Ingredient Force is Back

Posted by Jordan On September - 15 - 2010

We previously showed the debut of Taco Bell’s Super Delicious Ingredient Force. This Super Friends parody was hilarious, way better than the crap Taco Bell usually comes out with. Check out this commercial where a girl carries around some sort of bacon taco in her purse to attract guys.

Somebody who smells like bacon isn’t going to turn me on, it’s going to make me wonder why they jumped into a kiddie pool full of bacon grease, presumably old bacon grease if they aren’t all burned and disfigured. The quality, or lack thereof, of this and other Taco Bell commercials make it that much more surprising that Taco Bell would have as hilarious an idea as the Super Delicious Ingredient Force. This week the SDIF tackles the problem of stoned college students fighting the late night munchies while playing some disc on the quad. Will these chill bros be saved in time?! Tune in and find out! Or just watch the video below, whatever works.
